Beautiful Trails

There are number beautiful hikes in the north of the island. Wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water!

Watamula, Located in the northwestern part of the island of Curacao. (Save Watamula).

The trail is a moderately challenging. It takes you up a steep hill to a stunning overlook with panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea. The trailhead is located at the end of a dirt road off of the main road to Westpunt.

The hike to Watamula is approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) round-trip and takes about 1-2 hours to complete. The trail is rocky and uneven, and the incline can be steep in some areas, so it's important to wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water. The trail is not recommended for inexperienced hikers or those with mobility issues.

Once you reach the top of the hill, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the coast, with the waves crashing against the cliffs below. This is also a popular spot for birdwatching, as you can often see various seabirds soaring over the ocean. The Watamula hiking trail is a great way to experience the natural beauty of Curacao and is well worth the effort to get to the top.

On the west coast of Watamula is a hiking trail on the edge of the cliff that end at the hidden beach. Walk along the edge of the rock until you get to a small hidden beach called Playa Guepi to picnic and swim. It is a magical hike and well worth the effort.

Over the hill find a large natural sea geyser carved into the coral. Watch the sea waves explode through the bottom of the rocks in large and small holes across the beach.

Up from the Watamula natural sea geyser is a moon landscape that visitors have made into a pebble balancing beach. Hundreds of rock piles line the sea line. Build one and make a wish.

Shete Boka National Park is located on the northern coast of the island of Curacao and offers visitors a chance to explore the rugged beauty of the island's coastline. The park is named for the "seven mouths" (Shete Boka in Papiamentu) of the various coves and inlets that line the shore. There are several hiking trails in the park, each offering a different perspective on the stunning natural scenery.

One of the most popular hikes in Shete Boka National Park is the Boka Pistol Trail, which takes you along the rocky coastline to a natural bridge and blowhole. The trail is approximately 2.2 miles (3.5 km) round-trip and takes about 1-2 hours to complete. The trail is rocky and uneven, so it's important to wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water.

The Boka Pistol Trail offers a great view of the crashing waves and rocky cliffs, as well as various sea birds and other wildlife. The blowhole can create a spectacular show as the waves crash against the rocks and spray shoots up into the air.

Other hiking trails in the park include the Boka Wandomi Trail, which takes you to a secluded beach, and the Boka Tabla Trail, which leads you to a cavern and more stunning coastal views. The park also offers guided tours.

And then there is the Chistoffel Park and is the highest point in Curacao, Mount Christoffel. There are several hiking trails in the park, including the climb up Mount Christoffel, give you panoramic views of the island.

Westpunt’s Boka Grandi Trail takes you along the rugged northern coast. The trail starts at the parking lot near the entrance to the beach at Boka Grandi, which is known for its rough surf and strong currents. From there, the trail follows the coastline, offering spectacular views of the ocean and the rugged cliffs that line the shore. Hikers will pass by several small coves and inlets, as well as the remains of a shipwreck that is embedded in the rocks along the shoreline. The trail is approximately 2.2 miles (3.5 km) round-trip and takes about 1-2 hours to complete.

Savonet Museum Trail in Chistoffel Park leads you to the site of an old plantation and includes a visit to a museum. The trail is approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) round-trip and takes about 1-2 hours to complete. The trail starts at the entrance to the Savonet Museum, which is housed in a restored plantation house and offers visitors an insight into the island's history and culture.

Other hikes further south include:

Saliña Salt Flats: This area is located near the airport and is a popular spot for birdwatching and hiking. The salt flats are home to several species of birds, including flamingos, and there are several trails that wind through the area.

Hato Caves: While not a traditional hiking trail, the Hato Caves offer a unique underground experience that includes a guided tour through limestone formations and underground pools.
